Wellness Wednesday

What’s Wellness Wednesday you might ask? It’s a day in which you put yourself self first. A day in which you make sure to indulge in self care with is a form of self love. As a healer, I found myself spending more time taking care and slightly neglecting myself. Never on purpose but typically due to last minute appointments. I would work 7 days a week with little to no rest in between days.

We are not robots so we must take care of ourselves and nurture ourselves. I used to plan for days off but was never successful with keeping those days off due to the high demand of business. This led me to dedicating a day at least for 1 straight month, in which I would complete no physical work (massages) but I would instead book my own weekly massages, and other forms of holistic care needed in order to replenish my mind, body and soul. So that I didn’t fall into the same habit, I made sure to announce that I would be taking every Wednesday off in order to celebrate myself and “Wellness Wednesday”. I close my books and booked a months work of massages in advance. I scheduled each session for the same day and around the same time with the same 1-2 Licensed Massage Therapists. The goal for each session was to decrease pain, increase flexibility and increase comfort throughout my body. I’d book massages and also stretch sessions which were both very beneficial. By booking my sessions in advance, dedicating a date and time and also closing my books, helped me to look in my weekly self care date. This made me instantly happy as I had something to look forward to. Each week, by Tuesday, my body would start to ache as it knew that it was once again, time for another bodywork session.

After the first month of celebrating “Wellness Wednesday”, I felt amazing and was able to make more clearer decisions. Overall, I felt a lot happier because my body felt more at ease and was regulated. It was at this time that I understood that weekly massages is for sure not a luxury but a way of living, a must, a necessity for my life. As a healer, I am constantly putting my body in the line for others so taking the time to be catered to and pampered served my body well. I noticed that I was less moody, more calm, and also more in control of my thoughts, feelings and behaviors. I felt less impulsive. During this time, I did a quick fast which helped me to have a much clearer perspective of reality and to calm my central nervous system.

I urge you all to take a day for yourself where you are able to rest, reset and replenish yourself. A day in which you put yourself first as a means to reach homeostasis- full body balance.
